Voice Playback Codec Step by Step Guide
Voice Mail - Codec Install Guide

This codec is a file that needs to be installed if you have been setup for the Unified Messaging system.  What is the Unified Messaging System?  The Unified Messaging System is a digital copy of voice mails left on your phone extension attached and e-mailed to your district email address as a sound file.

In other words,

  1. Caller leaves you a VoiceMail on your phone
  2. RTNJ phone system converts the message into a special sound file
  3. RTNJ phone system E-Mails it to the designated recipients E-Mail address of that phone extension.
  4. Recipient opens the E-Mail, double clicks the sound attachment and plays their voice mail on their computer.
In order to play the sound file you must install this Codec attached as a Related File here at the very bottom of this web page.

Note: YOU ONLY NEED TO INSTALL THIS SOUND CODEC ONCE!
Note: IF YOU DECIDE TO CHECK VOICEMAILS FROM HOME YOU NEED TO INSTALL THIS CODEC ON HOME COMPUTER AS WELL.

HOW TO INSTALL CODEC: Simply follow the steps outlined on this web-page and refer to the pictorial screen shots for additional help.

Finished

You are now finished installing the codec required to playback the voice recordings sent to you in your E-Mail.
  • If the phone company set your phone up for this, any new voice-mail left on your phone will be emailed to you.  You will still have a copy on the phone itself and you will still need to delete phone messages from the phone.

Good Practices:

You should save these sound files to your computer or home folder and remove them from your E-mail because they will take up a lot of your Inbox storage space.  So please save them and then delete them from your E-Mail box.  Remember to empty your Deleted Items folder as well.

Tech Support
For support please submit an IT Direct Ticket here and your school technician can assist.

Thank you for following the Codec Installation Guide.
